Adobe Premiere for Forensic Video Analysts

Summary

Adobe Premiere for Forensic Video Analysts is a 3-day workshop that assists the investigator in understanding the overall interface of Adobe Premiere as well as the advanced toolset and filters available for examining video evidence. While this powerful tool can be used to edit video files, the focus of this workshop will be on using Adobe Premiere in a forensic video analysis workflow with an emphasis on preserving the original evidence and documenting the steps used to produce results.

Students are expected to bring a laptop to class with the Adobe Premiere software installed. The laptop should be utilizing a 64-bit operating system. A seven-day trial version of the Adobe Premiere software is available from the Adobe website. For more information contact Training@resvid.com

Class Outline

The examination and analysis of video evidence required dedicated software tools to ensure a thorough review has been conducted. A non-linear editor can assist with the process as well as provide additional tools and filters for producing derivative evidence and demonstrative results. One non-linear editor that can provide these tools and so much more is Adobe Premiere.

While this powerful tool can be used to edit video files, the focus of this workshop will be on using Adobe Premiere in a forensic video analysis workflow with an emphasis on preserving the original evidence and documenting the steps used to produce results. Topics discussed in this workshop include:

  • Understanding the forensic video analysis workflow with Adobe Premiere
  • Utilizing Adobe Premiere to create timelines
  • Processing techniques that enhance the quality of video evidence
  • Methods for redacting video and audio for public release
  • Producing derivative evidence and demonstrative products

Requirements:
Computer Skills
Basic computer skills are required to complete this training.

Participation
Multiple hands-on exercises will be included during each module. Class participation is required in order to achieve successful completion of the class.

A laptop computer must be brought by each student attending this class. The student must have administrative privileges on the laptop so that they may install software during the class. For more information contact Training@resvid.com

Instructor

Dorothy Stout is owner of Resolution Video Inc. which provides training on Forensic Multimedia Analysis and services for the examination and analysis of video, audio and image evidence. She has been involved in Forensic Video Analysis since 1998 during her career with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and also performed as a Forensic Video Analyst for the U.S. Department of Defense Computer Forensic Laboratory (DCFL). She has worked with the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and the Security Industry Association (SIA) as a forensic video/digital video technical consultant. Ms. Stout has been qualified as an expert and testified in all levels of the United States Courts and continues to offer expert testimony in civil and criminal cases involving video evidence. She has taught as an Adjunct Professor at the George Washington University, in Washington, DC, the University of Indianapolis, and the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Ms. Stout holds a Masters Degree in Forensic Science and a Bachelor Degree in Psychology.
